With a steering ratio of 13.6:1, the Tonale delivers one of the most direct and responsive steering setups in its class. Paired with its finely tuned front suspension system, the Tonale offers sharp handling and an engaging drive that stays true to Alfa Romeo’s performance DNA, bringing a level of agility and control rarely experienced in a compact SUV.
A signature Alfa Romeo feature, the large, all-aluminium, column-mounted paddle shifters come as standard on automatic versions, enhancing driver involvement and delivering a more dynamic, race-inspired feel behind the wheel.
The Tonale has an excellent balance of weight between the front and rear axels which guarantees maximum driving pleasure.
The Tonale features advanced Dual Stage Valve electronic suspension, designed to balance comfort and performance. Using electronically controlled dampers, the system continuously adjusts to driving conditions for enhanced stability and precision.
Choose between Comfort and Sport settings via the Alfa DNA drive modes. Advanced Efficiency and Normal prioritise ride comfort, while Dynamic mode activates a Sport calibration for sharper handling and a more engaging drive.
The 160 hp Hybrid VGT is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine equipped with a variable-geometry turbocharger and paired with a 7-speed Alfa Romeo TCT dual-clutch transmission. It integrates a 48-volt 15 kW, 55 Nm “P2” electric motor, enabling the vehicle to drive even with the internal combustion engine switched off.
The system allows the Tonale to start and move in electric mode at low speeds, including parking and cruising, delivering smooth performance with improved efficiency comparable to diesel levels.
With 275 hp and a Plug-in Hybrid Q4 system, this powertrain represented the most powerful and electrified version of the Alfa Romeo Tonale lineup.
The advanced hybrid system combines a 1.3-litre MultiAir turbo petrol engine driving the front wheels with an electric motor powering the rear wheels, delivering all-wheel-drive capability and strong performance, including 0–62 mph in just 6.2 seconds.
Equipped with a 15.5 kWh battery, it offers an electric driving range of up to 80 km in the city cycle and over 60 km combined. A full charge can be achieved in approximately 2.5 hours using a 7.4 kW charger.
