The all-new Nissan LEAF has taken the top spot in Auto Express’s comprehensive ranking of every electric car currently on sale in the UK, beating a field of 161 different EVs.
The achievement adds to an impressive list of accolades for the latest generation LEAF, which has also been named Auto Express Car of the Year 2026, Affordable Electric Car of the Year and Small Company Car of the Year.
Auto Express brought together its expert road testers to assess and rank all 161 electric cars available to UK buyers. The all-new Nissan LEAF emerged at number one, with the publication praising its combination of value, comfort, technology, efficiency and electric range.
The third-generation LEAF represents a major transformation from its predecessors. The familiar electric hatchback has evolved into a sleek fastback crossover, while the latest model brings a more spacious interior, advanced technology and significantly improved range.
Depending on specification, the LEAF is available with either a 52kWh or 75kWh battery, with the larger battery offering up to 386 miles of WLTP range. The 52kWh version can achieve up to 280 miles of WLTP range, providing an accessible option for drivers looking to make the switch to electric.
The new LEAF has been engineered to deliver a comfortable and refined driving experience, making it well suited to everything from the daily commute to longer journeys.
Auto Express highlights the LEAF’s comfortable ride, impressive efficiency and intuitive interior technology. The latest model also features Google-powered infotainment, helping make navigation, connectivity and everyday driving simpler.
Charging has also been significantly improved, with the 75kWh model capable of charging from 10–80% in around 35 minutes under suitable conditions.
The all-new Nissan LEAF continues Nissan’s long-standing commitment to electric vehicle production in the UK. The latest model is designed, engineered and manufactured in Britain, with production taking place at Nissan’s Sunderland plant.
With its combination of long-range capability, modern technology, comfort and value, the new LEAF represents a significant step forward for one of the pioneers of mass-market electric motoring.
