Last month, we celebrated the heritage of Abarth at Rockingham Motor Speedway. For one day only, our customers got the chance to experience the scorpion marque with rallies, test drives and exhibitions of rare and collectable Abarth models. Thames Motor Group took along the Abarth 124 Spider and the Abarth 595 Trofeo to this prestigious motoring event, where fans of the brand could take each car for a spin.
Abarth Day 2017 took place on the 20th May, and the sun was shining down on the track. Thames Motor Group held an Instagram competition for this event, where five lucky followers won free tickets. The top prize of the competition was merchandise of the official Abarth brand, and the winner was Olly March (follow his Instagram account @marchie595) who won an Abarth gear knob. With the Abarth Scorpionship, favourite models from the marque raced around the track, and owners of Abarth cars also had the chance to drive their own car around the track on purchase of a driver ticket. You didn’t have to be an owner of an Abarth to enjoy the spectacle. Guest tickets could also be purchased, and the event at Rockingham was an Abarth fan’s dream with lots of different exhibits happening throughout the day.
Visitors could explore a wide selection of classic, vintage, rally and brand new models from the Abarth marque. Including the new Abarth 695 XSR Yamaha, making its first UK appearance, it was joined by the Yamaha XSR900 Abarth. Both vehicles are numbered limited editions that spring from the partnership between Abarth and Yamaha Motor Europe.
There were Abarth activities available for both driver and guest ticket holders, including test driving a range of models and a hot lap driving experience in an Abarth 695 Biposto. These events were included in the ticket price, so people had real opportunities to experience the power of the scorpion. Auto testing was also on offer, as well as a host of entertainment such as simulators and virtual reality. Alongside these fun-filled activities, customers could explore the Mopar® Store and purchase kits and accessories for their beloved cars.
The Abarth 124 Rally made its UK debut this year, and visitors could enjoy the 296bhp car as a passenger and be driven around the track by the Bernini rally team. Other new models on display included the Abarth 595 Trofeo, with its intelligent technologies to enhance the driving experience, such as Uconnect™, keeping your Android phone and car in-sync.
Don’t miss out on this great day out – join us next time at Abarth Day 2018 to experience the scorpion brand in full force.
